You've got domain name backlinks pointing to your site, right? And when people search for something related to what you have to offer, your page is one of the first results shown. It's a pretty sure bet that people will click on your link if they see it right there at the top of the search engine result pages. That's why it's so important to have an effective way of getting backlinks pointing to your site. Here's how you can achieve this.

One thing you can do to increase the likelihood of your link being clicked on is to give people a reason to come to your page in the first place. For example, if you have an e-book on how to grow your business by targeting niche markets, wouldn't it be nice to offer a bonus for anyone who would like to sign up and get a copy of your book? By giving them a special "first page" incentive, you're going to ensure that they will at least look at your page, and that will be a click worth having. The more credible and useful your page becomes, the more likely people will be to come to it.

Another way to boost the odds that your link will be clicked on is to build relationship with other websites. One way you can do this is to make recommendations about their products on your own site. This creates a backlink to your own site from the website to which you're recommending the product. If people like what you recommend, they might even tell their friends to check out your site as well. You'll then have a whole army of backlinks pointing to your site, increasing its traffic-adders greatly.

However, getting backlinks from other sites won't work unless you put some effort into promoting them. This is because people are naturally not going to link to a blank page. (Why would they? Wouldn't you rather people fill in the blanks for you? I'm guessing that you wouldn't!)

So how do you promote a site you have created? There are two ways to go about this, although it may depend a lot on your situation and needs: either you get the domain name to which you'll be attaching your backlink, or you buy the domain name itself. If you're buying the domain name, you need to ensure that the name has some keywords in it. The higher the search engine rankings for those keywords, the better.

There are also sites that allow you to sign up for free, and then provide you with useful backlinks in exchange. These links aren't visible to the public, but they are still effective. Some webmasters take advantage of these free sites by using them to get backlinks to their own site. It can be tricky to know exactly what to do with them, though. You could end up spamming other sites, for example.

Another way of generating backlinks is by getting guest posts on other people's blogs and websites. Most blog owners are happy to allow you to post a comment or two on their site, which will put you in touch with their readership. You can ask questions, make recommendations, and generally just hang out. It's important to remember to leave a URL to your own website in your guest post, though, so that other readers will be able to visit you. Just don't overdo it!

There are many other ways of generating backlinks, but these are the two most common. Use one or the other according to your own needs and circumstances. You might even consider hiring an SEO company if you want to really expand your site's reach. Whatever method you choose, however, backlink building is a crucial part of the SEO process and shouldn't be taken lightly!
